I’ve been getting my hair cut at Salon Image for years now. My journey to the deceptively small, Vietnamese-owned hair salon was a long one that saw me bouncing from one hole in the wall shop to another. It went on like this for years, so it’s a big deal for me when I say that Salon Image is a reliable salon for men & women in Carson. It’s definitely the best the area has to offer.
Hair cuts are probably more important to our self image than we give them credit for. Privately, we imbue a certain importance to them, like a single hair cut will reboot first impressions or provide us the inspiration to be the person we’ve always wanted to be. That’s still a humorously absurd notion, but the closest I’ve come to that kind of satisfaction came from the many capable hands at Salon Image.
The atmosphere of a salon may not be an important selling point to you. Perhaps you’re okay with a plain, white-on-white interior with photographs of models from the 80s in the window. That’s a fair attitude to take because, after all, what does it matter so long as they’re do hair the right way? But think of it this way: if ever there was a service that should practice this kind of interior design vanity, it’s a salon.
To the delight of their many clients, the shop is clean. That’s important if you’re getting your nails done (so I’ve heard) and you’d be hard pressed to find a place at their price point that looks this nice. The design is suitably modern: tall, minimalist mirrors, sleek ceiling fans, faintly glowing mini pendants. It lets you know they care about making things look cool, and that extends to your heead. If you’re at all familiar with the competition in Carson, you’ll know that this is a diamond in the rough.
The facilities they have also help them stand out. They make use of their large staff with 8 seats for cutting hair as well as stations for manicures, pedicures and hair drying. All cuts are preceded and ended by a trip to their backwash chairs, sometimes even a quick shampoo.
Staff & Services
Finding a stylist or barber you like is a lot like finding a band you like. It comes down to a subjective taste, sense of trust, and finding someone that simply lines up with your sensibilities. Of course, one’s raw skill and talent comes into play, but there’s a lot of subjectivity that is unrecognized in the processed, as evidenced by Yelp reviews for any hair salon place, which always tend to be in 5 star or 1 star extremes.
That said, the staff at Salon Image has a high chance of suiting your needs. It’s not a small group. During prime hours, like weekend lunch time, it’s not unusual to see 5 or so occupied stations. The staff is capable and easy to trust. They’re conversational, they have a mind for youthful, modern looks, and they can follow directions to a T. These are all good qualities to have, because they do a lot here: hair cuts, color, styling, manicures, pedicures, waxing, highlights – they do it all.
Yet all their facilities wouldn’t mean anything if they couldn’t properly wield them, but their popularity should be evidence enough of their track record. As a result, unless you plan on stopping by during low traffic hours like weekday afternoons, you might be best served booking an appointment. Walk-ins can get lucky if they don’t need to see a specific person, but it’s safer to avoid the wait entirely.
Pricing is competitive, although it can fluctuate and they prefer to accept cash. Currently, a men’s haircut is a bargain at $12, a woman’s styling is $25, while the more intensive styling, coloring and treatment options will be upwards of $50.
