Manhattan Beach Schools

Manhattan Beach Schools
Education in the Manhattan Beach Area is provided by the Manhattan Beach Unified School District and many other private Manhattan Beach schools.

The Manhattan Beach Unified School District manages eight schools – one preschool, five elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. The district received a score of 926 on the 2010 California Academic Performance Index, ranking it as California’s 3rd best scoring school district.

The private schools include Manhattan Academy, American Martyrs Catholic School, Journey of Faith Christian School, and Montessori School of Manhattan Beach.

The Manhattan Beach Preschool

This school provides education to children between the ages of 2-5 years. The schooling hours are flexible. There is even a pick-up and drop-off facility.

The staff are screened and hired by the MBUSD. The teacher to child ratio is low, which helps to maintain optimum interaction.

Pacific Elementary School

This elementary school has a science lab and technology lab. There are also special programs such as Young at Art, ‘Walk through California’ for 4th graders, and ‘Walk through the American Revolution’ for 5th graders.

There is a program called Panther Buddies where a class is partnered with another class of a different grade. The two classes will meet many times during the academic year and engage in activities such as art, writing projects, and reading.

Meadows Elementary School

Meadows Elementary School admits pupils from Kindergarten to 5th grade. The school has several programs such as Growing Great, Grades of Green, Young at Art, Reflections, and Cultural Arts.

Events are scheduled throughout the year such as Student Store, Meadows Volunteer Fair, Meadows Spring Skate, PTA meeting, Meals for Meadows fundraiser, and Richstone Pier to Pier Walk.

Manhattan Beach Middle School

The Manhattan Beach Middle School is known for the exemplary education it provides. The school began in 1998. The school curriculum includes science, social science, English, physical education, and exploratory.

Students from the 7th and 8th grade can enroll for Mandarin, French, or Spanish classes. Students can also choose to learn a musical instrument in the exploratory section.

Mira Costa High School

Students can enroll in grades from 9th to 12th. Approximately, 2450 students are enrolled in the school.  From spring 2015, the school will start offering a six year term. The school has three different departments – Academic, Educational support, and Sports.

Academics include computer technology, foreign language, science, mathematics, visual, performing arts, and many more. Students can take part in more than 16 sports including popular ones such as golf, tennis, football, badminton, lacrosse, and volleyball. There is also a summer school program which students can attend.

Private Schools

The American Martyrs Catholic School was started in the year 1947, with 235 students. Now there are more than 600 students on the school’s rolls. The school has programs from pre kindergarten to 8th grade.

Manhattan Academy, a private school is nearly 40 years old. It has four campuses which are the Infant center, the Toddler center, preschool to kindergarten, and finally the elementary school and middle school campus. The school has six playgrounds, an art studio, a swimming pool, computer labs, a gymnasium, and many more facilities.
