Hermosa Beach used to be a part of an original Spanish land grant and was bought in 1900 by two local businessmen. It has been considered a beachfront town of the LA County in California, after an official survey in 1901. Planks were laid along the ‘Strand’ to form the boardwalk until it was replaced with cement in 1914. The first pier is Hermosa was built in 1904, and extended 500 feet into the Pacific Ocean. In 1906, elections were held and the town was incorporated in 1907.
Hermosa Beach is considered one among the three Beach Cities and is bordered on two sides by the two other beach cities. To the north lies Manhattan Beach and to the south and east lies the Redondo Beach. The Pacific Ocean lies on the western side of this little beach town.
What’s Unique About Hermosa Beach?
The city covers an area of 1.3 miles square and lies at an elevation of up to 200 ft above the sea level. The temperatures are quite pleasant all year round, averaging 74 degrees F in the summer and 55 degrees F in the winter. A unique feature of Hermosa Beach is the Strand, which stretches about 20 miles from Torrance Beach to the south, and to Hermosa pier and Santa Monica to the north. This stretch is one of the main community areas for partying, shopping, and eating.

The ideal location for shopping is the Strand and the shops on Pier Avenue. You will be able to find casual clothing and beach gear in these shops. You can also visit other locations in town that have shops and businesses that will cater to your needs.
Hermosa Beach Restaurants
Hermosa Beach has a wide array of dining options that cater to various tastes. Restaurants here serve up American, Italian, Mexican, Cajun, French, Teriyaki, Indian, Mediterranean, Creole, and all kinds of Asian food. Restaurants ‘Seafood’ and ‘Fusion cuisines’ are also very popular.
At Hermosa Beach, you can a lot of activities to indulge in. You could get a towel and hit the beach to soak up the sun, and maybe even get a tan. Or, you could rent a pair of roller-blades or a bicycle and cruise down The Strand along with all the other people. You could play volleyball or other games on the beach or in the water. Surfing and beach volleyball are popular in this region too. You could also go fishing, off the pier. Fiesta Hermosa, an annual arts and crafts fair that is famous for both the art and the music, and you an also find the all-you-can eat pancake breakfast from the HB Firefighters Association, that is organized for the benefit of the fire fighters. Here you can meet them, have breakfast with the crew, and buy the exciting auction items.
There is a good selection of dance clubs, dive bars, pubs, and lounges all over Hermosa Beach. Saint Rocke has a good bars and excellent live music. Other places like Ocean Bar, Sharkeez, and American Junkie are also quite exciting. Also, the Comedy and Magic Club is one of the most famous ones in LA, and features performances from Jay Leno on most Sundays.
